"The charges brought by Baku threaten them with dozens of years to life imprisonment" Siranush Sahakyan

It has been 11 months since Former Artsakh presidents Arkadi Ghukasyan, Bako Sahakyan, Arayik Harutyunyan, State Minister Ruben Vardanyan, former Speaker of the Parliament Davit Ishkhanyan, former Foreign Minister Davit Babayan, and former high-ranking military personnel azerbaijani are in Azerbaijani prisons.

Siranush Sahakyan, the head of the “International and Comparative Law Center” and the representative of the interests of Armenian prisoners at the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), noted in an interview with “Azatutyun”:

"Every person who is a citizen of the Republic of Armenia has the right to return to their homeland, and the country of citizenship must take positive actions regarding the realization of this right, and I would like to note that the Government of the Republic of Armenia has also taken these actions."

Baku has brought serious charges against former senior leaders of Nagorno-Karabakh, ranging from terrorism to forming illegal armed groups. Two months ago, Azerbaijan's prosecutor general announced that the criminal cases would soon be transferred to court. The trials have not yet begun.

According to Siranush Sahakyan, it will not be possible in Baku to ensure the protection of the interests of former Artsakh officials, and the charges brought by Baku threaten them with dozens of years to life imprisonment.
