Functional Problems of the RA Anti-Corruption Court and Ways to Overcome Them: Research Report

The databases on 97 criminal and 87 civil cases were collected as a result of the research conducted within the framework of the project “Justice Barometer: Assessing the Judicial Response to Corruption”. 12 interviews were also conducted with experts in the field: lawyers, judges, prosecutors and journalists, as well as a study and mapping of media publications on the anti-corruption court. Based on the research, a report was prepared and the Justice Barometer website was launched, reflecting important quantitative data.

Siranush Sahakyan, head of the Center for International and Comparative Law Center NGO, and Adelaide Baghdasaryan, head of the Legal Resources Center at the American University of Armenia, delivered welcoming speeches at the event.

The current challenges and achievements of the activities of the RA Anti-Corruption Court were presented by the judge specializing in civil cases of the court, Narine Avagyan. The Head of the Organizational-Supervisory and Legal Support Department of the RA Prosecutor General's Office, Mher Mkrtchyan, presented the current challenges and achievements of the activities of the RA Prosecutor General's Office related to corruption crimes. Legal analyst Mary Batikyan introduced the attendees to the results of the qualitative analysis of judicial acts, as well as legal, institutional and other issues related to the activities of the RA Anti-Corruption Court. The project coordinator, Avetik Mejlumyan, explained the research methodology, quantitative data and presented the Justice Barometer website. The event participants were also given the opportunity to address their questions to the authors of the report.
