New Exhibition Maps Loss and Displacement Following 44 day war in Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh)

"Is memory what you keep, or what you lose…?"

An opening of an exhibition titled "Mapping Loss" took place on November 20 in the Armenian Center for Contemporary Experimental Art. The Center for International and Comparative Law (I.C.Law Center) presents this profound exhibition exploring the human cost of displacement following the Second Nagorno-Karabakh War (2020) and the mass displacement of 2023. Through personal photographs, videos, artworks, handwritten notes, and everyday belongings contributed by displaced individuals from Artsakh, the exhibition transforms individual memories into a collective map of loss.

Each exhibit serves as a coordinate point where personal experience intersects with broader historical and legal frameworks. The show features both contributed materials from displaced persons and works by contemporary artists who have grappled with themes of war and displacement. Legal commentaries throughout the exhibition contextualize these stories within international human rights law, highlighting violations of property rights, freedom of movement, education, and cultural identity.

This is more than an art exhibition—it's a documentation of humanitarian catastrophe and a call for recognition of fundamental rights violations affecting tens of thousands who lost their homes, communities, and cultural heritage.
