Since 2007, the Russian-Armenian (Slavic) University (RAU) and the Armenian delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) have been organizing an annual International Conference of Young Researchers of International Humanitarian Law.

“The Center for International and Comparative Law” has been involved in the organization of the conference since 2012.

The aim of the conference is to create a forum for young professional lawyers to discuss the current challenges of modern armed conflicts in the light of international humanitarian law, international human rights law and international criminal law.

The reports presented at the conference are mainly devoted to the following topics. Each year these themes are subject to change.

. The main challenges of applying international human rights law during international and non-international armed conflicts,

. Extraterritorial application of international human rights law during armed conflicts,

. Protection of derogable and non-derogable human rights in situations of armed conflict and violence,

. Repression of the crime of genocide and crime against humanity in modern international criminal law,

. The role of international and hybrid tribunals and equivalent institutions in the prevention and punishment of war crimes;

The conference is a unique international platform for discussion of current issues and perspectives related to the development of IHL among young scientists. Since 2007, the geography of the conference has expanded, hosting participants from more than 30 countries and nearly 100 universities and institutions.

Each year, the Conference participants, together with experienced national and international law experts, are offered a lively platform to exchange views on a range of issues related to the development and implementation of IHL. Over the years, the organizers have hosted renowned international experts in the fields of international humanitarian law, international criminal law and public international law. Young scientists get the opportunity to listen to recognized experts and enter into an open discussion about different opinions and points of view.
