Siranush Sahakyan, the president of the International and Comparative Law Center, the head of the "Human Rights and Social Justice" master's program at the American University of Armenia, was awarded the "Prix Jean-Claude Barral de la Dйfense et des Droits de l'homme" award by the "Barreau de Montpellier" lawyers' association ("Jean-Claude Baral Protection and Human Rights Award").
The award is given to human rights lawyers in honor of Jean-Claude Barral, who has taken a tough stance against human rights violations around the world. During the last 12 years, Sahakyan has been representing victims of human rights violations in international courts and has played an important role in establishing justice in the Caucasus.
Sahakyan is also the co-founder of the "Path of Law" NGO and an adjunct lecturer at the American University of Armenia.
Through her work at I.C.Law, she now presents evidence, witness statements, legal documents, communications and reports on behalf of families of prisoners of war and missing persons to the ECHR and other international bodies responsible for such cases.
