On June 22, 2026, the regular meeting of the Interagency Commission on Prisoners, Hostages, and Missing Persons (whose whereabouts are unknown) was held under the chairmanship of A. Simonyan, Director of the National Security Service of the Republic of Armenia. Reports the NSS.
The meeting was also attended by Commission member Siranush Sahakyan, Director of the International and Comparative Law Center. Ahead of the meeting, the human rights defender met with the relatives of prisoners. Among other issues, Sahakyan asked the relatives of prisoners what issues they would like to have raised at the meeting of the interdepartmental commission. Sahakyan voiced the raised issues during the meeting.
The meeting addressed the legal regulations of the RA Law “On Persons Missing in the Conditions and Circumstances Created as a Result of Military Operations,” which entered into force on May 1, 2026, emphasizing their importance from the perspective of systematically regulating issues concerning missing persons, as well as the organizational measures aimed at implementing the law.
Issues related to the coordination of work among various state bodies and interested institutions were also addressed. As a result of the discussions, relevant instructions were issued, and the main directions for organizing further work were defined.
